Karen has a strong educational background. Her degrees include a Bachelor of Education Human Resource Development,  a Master of Education degree with a focus on Inclusion, and a Master of Science Guidance and Counselling degree. She is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and Counselling Therapist.

Karen has spent the last nine years working as a School Counsellor with Prince Edward Island’s Public Schools Branch.  She taught for nine years prior to this. She has supported children and families at all levels from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Karen has partnered with outside agencies to facilitate groups for coping with anxiety. She also has significant experience supporting children who struggle with self- regulation.

Karen is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Rehabilitation (EMDR) an evidence-based therapy for treating trauma.  Karen has training in many modalities some of which include, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.  She is also a trauma-informed Yoga instructor. She is a lifelong learner who continues to learn and grow as a therapist to provide the best care for clients. Karen is easy to talk to and is very compassionate.

While she has taught in the public school system, Karen’s degree in adult education (Human Resource Management) and her many years of experience make her a fantastic trainer as well.

Karen resides in western Prince Edward Island with her husband. They have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
