Background
This project offers the opportunity to build resilience by delivering one-on-one specialized mental health support and positive behaviour support strategies with people with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) living in the community. Our therapists are skilled in special assistance with emotional regulation including strategies to help manage behaviour.
This project helps address this by providing individual therapy sessions that communicate strategies and skills for building and maintaining a positive mental health.
Specifically, individual therapy sessions are designed to help reduce and buffer sources of stress by engaging clients in 1-1 sessions to create or enhance the skills needed to manage stress and build life skills. These include creating and improving self-care practices, understanding and identifying dysregulated emotions and strategies to regulate emotions, as well as goal setting.
Individual sessions strengthen core life skills including building an understanding of how to set goals; how to adapt to changing situations; and how to manage stress.
